concept.

“We have never had so many tools to shape sound in space, and yet most sensory experiences are still designed for, and around, the image.”

Alcôv turns that logic around.

Spatial listening
Enveloping sound from a multitude of sources.
Original works
Every piece is conceived specifically for Alcôv.
Limited run
65 days in residence per season.
Shared intimacy
No more than 180 people per session, to preserve the listening experience.

sound.

The Alcôv experience is truly singular. Here, the image serves the sound, not the other way round.

Spatial
At the heart of the auditorium lies a concentration of sound technology. A monumental triangulation spatialises sound through 360°. A first in France.
Specialised
Since 2023, Delacroix Studio has designed the sound system, built around L-Acoustics’ L-ISA technology, and mixed the works, placing the audience at the heart of the orchestra.
“What is spatial sound?”
The sound doesn’t come from a stage facing the audience: it reaches you from every direction, through 43 speakers placed around the room and across the ceiling.

scenography.

Space, materials, audiovisual and lighting design, scent, visual and musical signatures: everything comes together in service of total listening.

Visual
Six circular screens, 5 m high, and overhead, a suspended LED screen 9 m in diameter, by AMF (Advanced Multimedia).
Light
An installation by Jean-Christophe Aubrée in which light becomes movement.
Scent
A signature by Emmanuelle Grin (Agence Grace): woods, resins, the varnish of instruments.
Sound
Nōmak’s sonic identity, a quiet thread between two listenings.

wandering

Before the auditorium comes the Gallery: an introduction to spatial sound, home to Objets sonores, an exhibition devoted to the history of sound reproduction (curated by Laurent Massaloux and Jean-Yves Leloup).

disconnect

Sessions are phone-free. Devices are left at reception, making way for 40 minutes of undivided attention to the work. Time for photos is set aside before the session.

architecture.

To offer the listening conditions of the most prestigious concert halls, in a structure that can be assembled, dismantled and taken on tour.

Structure cylindrique de l’auditorium Alcôv
Interlocking
A cylindrical structure by Pétronille Leroux: a timber frame and inflated, clamped fabric, a nod to the quilting of the great couture houses.
Intimate
Human scale: no more than 180 people per session. Modular walls, grained wood, cotton hangings (interior design by Émilieu Studio).
Touring
Three weeks to assemble, ten days to dismantle. Every element is designed to be reused.

for one.

A small footprint, easy to reach by low-carbon transport, in cities and remote regions alike.
